Wild Lights this Sabbath

This December 13th, from 6-9 pm, the Living Desert will open the yuletide season with a festive light display, featuring more than 350,000 twinkling lights that illuminate the park after dark, turning the desert into a holiday winter wonderland.

Tickets have been purchased and will be dispersed at church this Sabbath during Sabbath School at the Adventurer table or at The Living Desert at 6 pm. Please call my cell at 909-553-6017 if you come later than 6 pm. I will either leave at “will call” or come out to meet you.

We will be meeting at the Living Desert in Palm Desert at 6:00 (NOT leaving the church at 6 pm.) It is approximately 70 miles from Grand Terrace so please plan ahead. The address to the Living Desert Zoo is 47900 Portola Avenue, Palm Desert, CA 92260 and their phone number is 760-346-5694. To get there, take the I-10 East. Take the Monterey Avenue exit in Palm Desert and turn right. Turn left onto CA-111 and then right onto Portola Avenue.

Looking forward to see you there.

Mission project for Nov/Dec

Dear Adventurer parents

We need your participation! One of our mission projects this year is making “goody” bags for the 60 families that the Azure Hills food bank provides for. The club is planning on purchasing 60 drawstring backpacks to fill with goodies. The bags should be filled with nothing in particular other than something one might enjoy getting. For example: chocolates, fruit roll ups, small toys, cookies, toothpaste, toothbrush, chap stick, etc. Please be creative when bringing items. Each Adventurer class will pack 10 bags with the items you bring.

If possible bring what you can this next meeting to your class. We will be collecting items the next two meetings to collect and organize the bags. In December we will give the bags to the food bank to distribute. More information will be in our newsletter.

Thank you.

Silverwood Lake campout information

Directions to Silverwood Lake are: I-215 north (merging onto the I-15). Exit onto Highway 138 and head east (right hand turn). Travel east for 11 miles until you reach the Silverwood Lake exit. When exiting turn right (lake/main entrance is to the left) and head towards the group camp sites. It will be on the left hand side. You cannot see the campsite from the road but we will put up signs indicating where to enter.

Once at campsite, you may pick place to set up tent. It is a first come first serve basis regarding your tent location. RV’s will park in parking lot. Please don’t forget to check in and get a parking pass.

We will have sign up sheets for each meal. Please remember that we ask that each family sign up for one meal throughout the weekend. Fridays meal is on your own, but then all three meals on Sabbath and Sunday breakfast will be provided.

Some other things to remember:
1. We serve lacto-ovo vegetarian meals: please make sure to bring along anything you might need for any special dietary needs of your family members.
2. Bring helmets if you plan on riding bikes or scooters.
3. If you bring your own water bottle you will be able to refill with the bottled water we provide, thus lessening the waste of used cups.
4. Bring your lawn chairs to sit on.
5. Restroom facilities have showers but you will need some quarters. (Make sure you get in there prior to Pastor Carmen because she takes real LONG and HOT showers!)

Induction this Sabbath

Dear Adventurer families,

Please do not forget that Induction is this Sabbath. For those of youthat are new, what this entails is all of the Adventurers coming ontothe stage and being recognized. We do not single one person out but do it as a group. You may come 1st, 2nd service or both.

We will be having a potluck following second service. For those who signed up to help set up, please come right after induction if possible to fellowship hall. We need to set up tables and prepare the food. Please do not forget to wear dress uniforms.

God Bless

Directions to the Villa

Our Singing band event will occur on February 9th (which is this Sabbath). We will be having it at Linda Valley Villa. It is located at 11075 Benton Street. From Loma Linda University Medical Center, go east on Barton. Make a left (north) on Benton Street (stoplight between Anderson and Mountain View). As soon as you pass the VA hospital, the Villa will be on the right. You will need to park on the street or across the Villa in the LLU parking lot. The Villa has requested that the kids do not run while there. Please remind them prior to coming. We are going to start at 3:30 pm. We will be meeting either in library or the dining room. I anticipate us to be there 45-60 minutes. Please have all kids where their dress uniforms.

We will have a short worship when we get back, followed by a haystack dinner and Presidential fitness activities. Adventurer families will also have an opportunity to attend a Calvin Taylor concert. He is an accomplished pianist and will be at the Azure Hills church. His concert starts at 4:30 pm. It should last 1 hour. Our potluck should start about 5:15, so you could leave the concert early or come to the potluck a little late.

Change of February event!

Hello Adventurer families,
There has been a last minute change to our calendar. We are planning on having our singing band/potluck/Presidential fitness on February 9, rather than our XRtrainment fundraiser. Because of the churches Easter play practice schedule, Sabbath afternoons during March are full which would not allow the participants of the Easter play to join in our singing band (as well as no guitar players). The potluck will be haystacks and will be provided. It is imperative that you sign up during our next meeting if you plan on attending. The singing band will begin at 3:30 at Linda Valley Villa.

Hope to see everyone there.
