Sabbath Hike on November 14

Need your Adventurer fix?

If you do, come out with us for a hike in Oak Glen this Sabbath. Our hike will start at 2 pm. The weather is going to be great! Young kids are easily able to complete this hike.
To get to the Oak Glen Preserve (located at Los Rios Rancho) take the San Bernardino Freeway (IS-10) east, exit at Live Oak Canyon/Oak Glen Rd. and go north 8 miles, through Oak Glen. As you reach the pinnacle of the hill, you will see signs for Los Rios Ranchos and Riley's Farm. Make a right to enter Riley's Farm (which actually in is in front of Los Rios Ranchos Park.) Please park in Oak Knoll parking lot. It is the parking lot behind Riley's Farm stores. We will come back to this park after our hike. Their address is 39611 Oak Glen Road, Yucaipa, CA 92399.

Look forward to seeing everyone there.

Silverwood campout info

Silverwood Lake is an ideal location for camping. It is one of the very few camping facilities that
can accept our entire group. We have reserved side by side group sites which hold 100 people each. It is
also only 45 minutes away from church, thus it is feasible to come up for Sabbath only, so please come
up!
Directions to Silverwood Lake are: I-215 north (merging onto the I-15). Exit onto Highway 138
and head east (right hand turn). Travel east for 11 miles until you reach the Silverwood Lake exit. When
exiting turn right (lake/main entrance is to the left) and head towards the group camp sites. It will be on
the left hand side. You cannot see the campsite from the road but we will put up signs indicating where
to enter.
Once at campsite, you may pick any spot to set up tent. It is a first come first serve basis regarding
your tent location. Pathfinders will be setting up their tents more west and Adventurers towards the
east. RV’s will park in either parking lot. If the first parking lot is full, you will need to go around to the
other group site parking. Please don’t forget to check in and get a parking pass.
We will have sign up sheets for each meal. Please remember that we ask that each family sign up
for one meal throughout the weekend. Fridays meal is on your own, but then all three meals on Sabbath
and Sunday breakfast will be provided. All other supplies such as chairs for campsite, tents, toiletry
items, etc is the responsibility of each family.
Our itinerary includes check in Friday afternoon anytime after 3 pm. Sundown worship will occur
at 7 pm around campfire. (Please bring chairs to sit.) For those coming for Sabbath only, breakfast is at
8 and worship service will start at 10 am. Check out time on Sunday morning is by 11 am. I more thorough
schedule will be handed out when you check in.
Some other things to remember:
1. We serve lacto-ovo vegetarian meals: please make sure to bring along anything you might need for
any special dietary needs of your family members.
2. Bring helmets if you plan on riding bikes or scooters.
3. If you bring your own water bottle you will be able to refill with the bottled water we provide, thus lessening
the waste of used cups.
4. Restroom facilities have showers but you will need some quarters.

Beach Day 2009

Are you not quite ready to say goodbye to the summer? You don’t have to! SECC is having a conference wide Beach Day on Sunday, September 27th at the Bolsa Chica State Beach. Activities are oriented for parent and child participate as well as free time to fly kites. A sand castle contest will take place with ribbons for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awarded. (Azure Hills has been awarded a first place award the past 2 years). Please be aware that there is a $10 parking fee. The schedule is as follows:

10:00 am Registration and free time
11:00 am Opening prayer
11:15 am Tug of war
11:45 am Bucket relay
12:15 pm Lunch
1:30 pm Build sand castle/free time
3:00 pm Closing

Adventurers will need to provide their own shade, food, clothing, water, suntan lotion, towels, shovels, sand toys and kites. Bring enough of everything you would need to spend 5 hours at the beach. Kites will be flown at your leisure. The sun, sand, and water will be provided by God. Be prepared to have a good time. The past few years the weather has been perfect, even when there was marine layer in the Inland Empire, the beach was great. So don’t let the IE weather convince you not come out.

Bosa Chica State Beach extends three miles from Seal Beach to the Huntington Beach City Pier. We will be located between Towers #21 and #22. Look for our yellow Azure Hills Adventurers sign. Directions - From the 405 or 22 Freeways, take the Bolsa Chica exit south to Warner Avenue. Turn right on Warner Avenue to Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). Turn left on PCH. The entrance will be on your right. Their physical address is 17851 Pacific Coast Highway, Huntington Beach.

Hello Adventurer families,

The summer is flying by and I hope everyone is has having a great one. We are anticipating a great upcoming year and hope that every child who is able can join us. We have lots of fun and spiritual activities planned and the more people the better. Please feel free to invite neighbors, members from other churches or other family members to join us. We would love to have them!
Registration will be held on Tuesday, August 18, at 6:30-7:30 pm, in Fellowship Hall. That evening you can complete registration forms, purchase a used uniform (if available) and pay dues ($25 for the year; plus $7.50 for Adventurer Accident Insurance).

Investiture this Friday night

Dear Adventurer families,

Here are a few notes for this Friday nights Investiture.

1. Soup/salad dinner will start at 6 PM. If you signed up to help set up, please come at 5:30 to help set up tables and prepare the food. We will also need the men to quickly break down the tables after dinner.
2. As mentioned at our last meeting, you do not have to bring any food for dinner. Dinner will be provided by Adventurers, thus in return, we ask that you help our church food bank. They are in desperate need of canned food and beans (pinto, garbanzo, lima, etc). Thus please bring anything you can share and we will distribute it to the food bank.
3. Investiture will start at 7 PM. Please remember to have Adventurers wear their dress uniforms.
4. Lost items found at our campout will be brought for collection this Friday evening.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Campout news

Dear Adventurer Families,
Our campout is here. Weather looks fantastic with temperatures in the 70’s. We plan on having a pretty big group driving out to Santa Barbara.
Not too late to sign up if you want to go. To sign up, you need to mail check to Verlon Strauss. Please email me for address if needed. There are a few people who have not paid yet as well. If you are one of those families, please send money to Verlon ASAP.

El Capitan State Beach is located 17 miles northwest of Santa Barbara. Their address is 10 Refugio Beach Road, Goleta 93117. To get there, take I-10 W —>CA-57 N—>I-210 W—>CA-134 W—>US-101 N. Pass Santa Barbara until you reach El Capitan State Beach Road. Go left under freeway to the main entrance. You can get directions to our campsite (Drake) at the ranger station. We will distribute parking passes when you check in with us at the actual campsite.

If you come on Sabbath, just tell the park ranger (if at gate) that you are with the group campsite Drake. They also have maps on how to find the Drake campsite as well.
For those who signed up to bring camp stoves, please don’t forget them. We can never have enough stoves.
May God keep everyone safe this weekend.

El Capitan RV news

Verlon just talked with El Capitan. The first time they answered the phone after multiple times calling yesterday and today. The answer is basically no. She did not have a reason but that is it and there was no one I could talk to that would have any different answer.

He asked about cancellations and she said that they give them out by day and so if someone comes in and asks they could get one. I would encourage you to call El Capitan at 805-968-1033 or go to reserveamerica.com for any sites opening up.

They also gave Verlon a number of a place called Ocean Mesa which is just across the freeway. They have plenty of sites available but they are $90 a night! Full hookups with a swimming pool and all. It does not provide access to the state beach but we would give you a pass for the group site which would allow you to come in. You would be able to park in the empty parking lot next to our group site. Because of my lack of communication regarding the RV spots at El Capitan, Adventurers will help subsidize those that stay over there. Just let us know. The number for this campground is 805-879-5751.

I am sorry for the inconvenience. Each year our RV group continues to grow.
